ご説明します。

　

Let us explain what “center-cut” means.

　

　

　
　

センター取りとは文字通り、
革の真ん中を中心として、革の
斑( ふ / ウロコのような模様)が
左右対称となるように革を
切り取ること
( もしくはそのように切り
取られた革 ) を指します。

　

A “center-cut” refers to the practice of cutting the leather so that the natural scale pattern —
called fu in Japanese — is perfectly symmetrical, with the central line of the hide positioned right at the center of the bag.
It can also refer to the leather itself, cut in this specific way.

赤の四角いパーツを裁断する
際に例えば向かって右のように
カットすると効率が良く２枚
切り取れます。

　

ですが、センター取りの場合は
同じ面積のパーツでも1枚しか
取ることが出来ません。

その分、単価は高くなりますが
切り取られたパーツは左右対称
の斑(ふ)を持つ美しい仕上がりに
なるのです。

When cutting the red rectangular part,
you could take two pieces from the hide if you cut it efficiently — like on the right side.

However, with a center-cut, you can only take one piece from the same area,
as the center of the hide must align perfectly with the center of the part being cut.

This makes the material less efficient to use, and therefore more costly —
but the result is a beautifully balanced piece with symmetrical scale patterns.

ヌバック仕上げ。スウェードと
どう違うの？と感じる方も
いらっしゃるかもしれません。
どちらも同じ“起毛させた革”
ですが、実は両者は似て
非なるもの。

　

スウェードは床面と言われる
革の裏側を起毛させたもので
毛足はやや長め。ふわっと
柔らかく、どちらかというと
カジュアルな印象。
　

一方でヌバックは「銀面」とも
呼ばれる革の表側を極薄く
削って起毛させたもので、
毛足が短くきめ細かい
しっとりなめらかな手触りが
特徴です。

ヌバックは見た目も上品で、
よりラグジュアリーな質感。
さらに、革の“表”を使うので、
見た目以上にしっかりとした
耐久性も備えています。　

　

Suede is made by buffing the underside of the leather, known as the “flesh side.”
It has a slightly longer nap, giving it a soft, fluffy texture and a casual look.

Nubuck, on the other hand, is created by gently sanding the outer surface of the leather, called the “grain side.”
This results in a shorter, finer nap with a smooth, velvety touch.

Nubuck offers a more refined appearance and luxurious feel.
Because it uses the outer layer of the leather, it is also more durable than it may appear.
