この空はイタリアに繋がっている|ステファノリッチ 待望の新作ネクタイ入荷と物作りの舞台裏 From Florence to Ginza – The Story Behind Stefano Ricci’s New Arrivals

Today’s blog features:

* A report from our staff member Sato in Italy
* The arrival of new Stefano Ricci pieces

We at HIKO have been visiting craftsmanship sites in Italy and beyond for over 30 years, ever since the days of our founder (my father), to source truly exceptional pieces.

That baton has passed from my father to me, and now it’s beginning to pass to our staff member, Hayate Sato. Hayate is currently in Italy, visiting Pitti Uomo—the world’s largest menswear trade fair—as well as the ateliers and showrooms of various brands.

Shortly after staff member Sato arrived in Florence, he sent us a video showing a 19th-century Jacquard loom in action. Skilled artisans guided the threads as punch cards controlled the woven patterns.

At the workshop he visited—Antico Setificio Fiorentino—a loom designed by Leonardo da Vinci himself is still in use.

Based on blueprints sketched in the 15th century, this loom weaves only a few dozen centimeters per day due to its extremely delicate process.

This loom, moving in rhythm with the hands of the artisan,
does more than weave fabric—it carries the spirit of those who preserve tradition and culture,
passing their legacy on to future generations as a living heritage.

The fabric woven here is also used in the Stefano Ricci collection, with whom we have now started a direct partnership.

Last month, during my visit to the showroom in Milan, I asked if it might be possible for our young staff member, Hayate Sato, to visit the production site during his trip to Italy.

Here is the report on our May business trip.

When they heard our request, the head office kindly arranged a full-day tour for Hayate — including the silk mill, Stefano Ricci headquarters, and the flagship store.

Neither my father nor I have had the chance to visit those places ourselves, so it’s truly remarkable that he’ll experience all this on his very first business trip.

He is indeed quite lucky.

In the workshop near Fiesole, just outside Florence, Sato observed the production of various items.

Among them were the crystal-embellished ties — a popular piece at our store, often requested by customers who ask to be notified when new colors arrive.

I had known that each crystal is hand-applied by artisans, but seeing it in the video, I felt it was truly a form of craftsmanship — more art than mere production.

Like the crystal-embellished ties, the patchwork ties also embody the unmistakable identity of Stefano Ricci.

Patchwork ties are crafted using over 20 different fabrics.

Though the colors are in the same tone, combining such a variety of patterns into a single tie requires exceptional aesthetic sense.

Each piece is carefully hand-cut based on the artisan’s keen eye —
deciding, for example, “This section, at this angle, will bring balance and beauty to the whole.”

It’s like composing an abstract painting—with fabric as the medium.

And finally, the “answer” arrives in Ginza
As Sato witnessed the manufacturing firsthand, the first shipment from Italy arrived at our Ginza store.

After facing a year-long supply disruption from Japan’s distributor, we traveled to the headquarters in May to negotiate direct sourcing.

And now, that very first direct shipment has arrived.

The moment we opened the box, our hearts stirred
Inside the large wood-grain box, the ties born in that Florentine workshop were beautifully lined up.

Photography, inspection, registration—the path to going live online
Each tie is inspected, photographed from multiple angles—usually 4 to 5 cuts per piece—and carefully color-corrected before being listed online. Today, they are finally live on our store.

In addition to the aforementioned patchwork and crystal-embellished ties,

we also offer a refined selection in subdued tones, perfect for business occasions.

and even the brand’s signature item — the solid-colored pleated ties that define Stefano Ricci.

New blossoms have finally returned to our display cabinet — fresh arrivals after a long while.

As we have previously shared, the prices of Stefano Ricci ties in Japan had not been properly adjusted for a long time — despite the weaker yen, rising costs, and global changes.

To resolve the unusual situation where prices in Japan were lower than in Italy, and to prevent delays like the recent one, we will now begin applying fair and appropriate price adjustments to new arrivals moving forward.

We fully understand that a sudden price increase—one that other brands have taken over five years to implement gradually—is not something customers would welcome.

After careful negotiation with Stefano Ricci, we have agreed to introduce a transitional pricing phase over the course of one year, beginning with this first round of adjustments.

According to Stefano Ricci, Ginza HIKO is currently the only store in Japan placing orders for their latest collections.

These pieces are becoming increasingly rare and valuable — a truly exclusive offering.

Scenes from the workshop, sent by our staff member Sato.

Seeing the blue sky stretching beyond the building adorned with Stefano Ricci’s emblem — and feeling that same sky connects to Ginza — somehow brought me joy.

Starting tomorrow, I’ll stand in the store with a renewed spirit, hoping these exceptional pieces will find their way into the hands of many.
